Worship requires not only the leadership of the Teaching Elders (the clergy), but also a full team of members and officers to fulfill various other roles. We encourage you to learn about the Sunday morning worship options and to sign up to help!
- Greeters warmly welcome fellow worshipers entering church prior to worship. Sign up for either the 8:45 am or 11:15 am service.
- Ushers do a variety of functions that take place each Sunday. Sign up for either the 8:45 am or 11:15 am service.
- Hosts stay in the atrium during both worship services. Sign up for one Sunday from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm.
- Communion is prepared and served by officers of the church, nearly always for the first Sunday of every month, and occasionally at other times throughout the year.
INVITATION TO SERVE IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD: USHERING AND GREETING AT 4TH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
"Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors."
Ushers and greeters play a vital role in the ministry at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Often, these servants offer the first impression our members and visitors receive. We want this impression to be warm, inviting, welcoming, and friendly. We hope everyone who enters our doors will leave with a good feeling about this ministry and will want to return. It is also important that everyone feels safe every Sunday morning.
The ushers and greeters are an important part of worship leadership. When people appear on our doorstep, they need to see God at work. Greeters provide the smiles and friendly handshakes that demonstrate Christian love. Ushers provide direction and assistance to worshipers which demonstrates Christian caring and giving. They also perform a variety of tasks that support worship and enable them to enjoy the fellowship of their fellow ushers and greeters.
As you may imagine, it takes many people to serve in these roles and meet the needs of this congregation at both services. The Hospitality, Ushering, Security and Host Committee, affectionately known as HUSH, is charged with recruitment of ushers and greeters. HUSH also creates the guidelines for ushers and greeters.
We welcome your willingness to help in this ministry with us. If you would like to serve as an usher or greeter, please contact one of the following members of Fourth:
