Monday, July 23- Rolling River Rampage: Day 1
What a great start at the Rolling River Rampage! We loved seeing all of your children's happy faces today and are so excited for the week ahead. Please take note of the bible story and versefor Day 1 as well as important information for the remainder of the week (below).
Bible Story: Jesus Calls the Disciples (Matthew 4:18-25)
Rapid Reminder: Find adventure on the river!
Rafting Ready Verse: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." (Isaiah 43:2)
VCS is such an exciting week for our children & it wouldn't be possible without the support of our parents! All participants are invited to bring in VCS donations throughout the week. A donation of $15/child or $30 max per family is suggested. Please make your donation at the check-in table in the friendship area or give your donation to Donna or any of the VCS directors.
Our service squad will be working to support Friends of the Reedy River.
For the last twenty-five years they have been the voice of the river. From land conservation to water quality testing, their goal is and has always been to protect and restore the Reedy River. We are looking forward to hearing about the work our campers are doing with this local organization throughout the week! Each child was given a flotation Cash Collector today that will be theirs to keep to take camping, to the beach or on hikes--endless possibilities! Throughout this week, our Rolling River Rampage campers are encouraged to use this container to bring their donations in each day. We will have a big pot on our camp stove where they can deposit their donations each day if they wish since the containers are small. Be sure to visit the FORR website (linked above) to learn about ways we all can help to preserve this beautiful natural resource that runs through the middle of our city. We invite everyone in the congregation to help with this worthwhile organization as well.
Break Room Snacks
If you would like to show your appreciation for all of our hardworking volunteers, you may do so by sending in a snack for the teachers’ break room tomorrow or any day following. We are short on snacks for our volunteers & appreciate anything you can do for them! Please sign up HERE.
Thursday night at 6:30 we will celebrate with all of the VCS volunteers at Tipsy Taco (15 Conestee Ave.). Please join us for a fun outing together!

We HOPE all the kids had a wonderful Thursday at VCS Hero Central!
Our little heroes made hero bracelets and mixed food coloring to make new colors in Science. In Science, Our larger heroes did a soap and straw experiment making towers of soapy bubbles and learned how molecules stick together. In Art they added the Beatitude title to their painting. They all sang and played and enjoyed clever snacks.
Powerful Last Day is tomorrow!
Service Squad Day 4
Today the Service Squad went to Cleveland Park to collect data for the Bikesville division of the Parks and Recreation. We split into three groups coving the entrances into the park and counted cars, runners, walkers, bikers, and people walking with a dog. This data will be used when creating a master plan for the city. It was so much fun learning about the history of Cleveland park!
Did you know that it used to have a swimming pool at one area and Sea Lyons in another?

Today, our heroes had WISDOM.
Our older heroes made a cool experiment with spinning flags in science and held up 3 bibles with one piece of paper- COOL! They placed the cross and bible verse on their beautiful canvas pieces. In Stories, they watched their bible story skits from yesterday which was so exciting to see them on camera! Music, Rec room and snacks are always fun for the kids!
Service Squad Day 3
Today the Service Squad did an Adopt-A-Highway trash pick up program on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The City of Greenville provided us with vest, gloves and trash grabbers! We were all so surprised with the amount of trash we picked up in one small portion of the trail. It's amazing that people still litter with the amount of trash cans located on the trail.
Once our section was cleaned everyone found the perfect place to display the small rocks we painted yesterday in hopes that someone would find them. We added our VCS verse to the back of the rocks. What a cool way to share the verse of the week!

Do good! Seek peace and go after it! (Psalms 34:14b)
And they went after it today! Our heroes continues the fun with Science experiments with bubbles and magnets. The little ones made picture frames with their sweet faces. The elementary heroes continued painting their canvases. All the heroes learned about Abigail in the Bible, sang their hearts out and most importantly, they now know how to have COURAGE for God!
Tomorrow the fun continues!
Service Squad Day 2
Today the Service Squad went on a tour of Mayor Knox White's office. Amy Ryberg Doyle on the City Council showed us all the different information the council uses to make decisions that affect our city. She showed us many before and after pictures of places the city has improved helping to make our downtown so popular and pedestrian friendly. She also showed us how our tax dollars are used. Best best part was getting to individually vote on a surplus of funds the city council is working on now. Amy Ryberg Doyle tallied our votes and will take our information to the council. It will be fun to see which option is voted for the surplus. After today, we might see some familiar faces on the city council in a few years!

We had a powerful first day at Hero Central!
The kids watched a hilarious skit by Fourth Staff...I mean...heroes like Superman, Incredible Hank, and Wonder Woman. They brought energy and fun to start our day. They told us that we are God's heroes and God wants us to have HEART!
Then the little heroes went to their classes. The preschool heroes learned new songs, made head bands, did an experiment with baking soda and jumped in the castles in The Rec room after creative snacks.
The elementary kids sang with their hearts, experimented with sodas and started their canvas painting.
The Bible stories that all the children learned was Samuel anointing David.
The Service Squad enjoyed God's green earth touring Cleveland Park today.
God's heroes can't wait to save the day again tomorrow!
Service Squad Day 1
The Service Squad is keeping with the Hero theme for VCS this week by saving the parks! We went on a tour of Falls Park this morning and learned what all the City of Greenville does to maintain the area. We first learned that the round grassy area just down the stairs from the Main Street entrance is called the "Wow Area" because once you stop and look around at the park, all you can say is "Wow"! It was also interesting to learn that the space where the Liberty Bridge is today used to be a highway running through town. We toured the gardens around and we were shown a secret "jailhouse" hidden beneath the street on the backside of the park. It was cool to see God's nature well maintained!

Extra Extra Read all about it!
Hero Central has taken over 4th Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC! The Word is out! God is asking everyone of us to be His Hero and we must join forces starting TOMORROW!
You won’t believe the transformation in our Fellowship Hall, Preschool and Elementary Hall downstairs. The visions of artist member, Kate Churches, has become a reality! With the amazing help of our directors and volunteers (and some of their kid helpers) the church is popping with color and energy sure to impress all the children this week.
They will feel like they are walking city streets at night and day, entering Hero Central headquarters, and bursting through comic books to learn about God’s Heros in the Bible. This week, the children will learn how to have HEART< COURAGE
Please come back and read each day about what they have learned and see photos.
Thank you for sharing your children with us! Please drop them off by 9, pickup at noon.
